Homemade Mayo (Whole30, Paleo, Gluten Free, Sugar Free, Dairy Free, Grain Free)

Mayo gets a bad rap… probably because the jarred stuff isn’t ideal. And the jarred healthy/sugar free stuff is even worse, in my opinion. Now, if you haven’t tried homemade mayonnaise, I dare say you haven’t tried it at all. It isn’t even comparable! Seriously, it’s amazing. It makes the perfect base for sauces, is delicious in chicken salad/tuna salad/potato salad, and is all around a great staple to have in the kitchen.

Making mayonnaise takes just a few simple ingredients that I bet you already have in your fridge/pantry. And if you don’t, they are SUPER easy to find. I like using LIGHT olive oil, which you can easily find at Kroger/Walmart/etc. I even prefer it over avocado oil, the taste is just better. To make this whole30, make sure your mustard is whole30 approved (no sugar or sweeteners in the ingredients).

Don’t be intimidated or overwhelmed by making your own mayo! The secret is using an immersion blender. It’s the only way. I have this one but also found this budget friendly option. Here’s how you do it- place all ingredients in the jar, put the blender over the egg yolk and blend for a full 10-20 full seconds (you will see mixture starting to thicken at this point). Then slowly pull the blender up and mix the rest of the ingredients until thick. That’s it! It makes a big ole jar of mayo that you can keep in your fridge for delicious experiments! Let me know if you have any questions about it. I know you can do it! xo

How to cook Homemade Mayo

  1. Add all ingredients to a wide mouth jar. Place emulsion blender directly over the egg yolk and blend for a full 10-20 seconds. Mixture should begin to thicken at this point. Pull blender up and mix the rest until thick. You might have to go up and down a few times with the blender to get desired results. Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for one week.
